About us

My name is Bettina and I am the one behind A knitters World. I am married to Uffe and together we have two wonderful children. I trained as a shepherd but became allergic to, among other things, the lanolin found in sheep's wool and therefore took an additional qualification as an Agricultural Technologist, which, in short, means I can advise farmers on how to care for their animals best.

But fate wanted our daughter to be diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger's and our son with ADHD. This overturned our picture of the perfect family and I had to be the one to stay home and take care of the children. Uffe is self-employed in the aquaculture sector and it's not easy to clear everything from the calendar to stay at home.

I started knitting when the children were diagnosed because I discovered I needed something to destress me. It was then that my mother taught me to knit. After a few months, during which I often went up to my mother because I had dropped a stitch or similar, I discovered that YouTube was a brilliant resource. After that things moved quickly and the first sweaters, blankets and various winter knits soon came off the needles.

After some years of struggle both children got into special school and it didn't take long before many things at home were under control. That was my cue to move on and I got a job as a desk worker in my husband's company. Working with fish is fine... but my dream was and is knitting and so I decided to take the plunge and started dyeing yarn. After a few courses it took off and my short time at art school in Copenhagen suddenly became useful.

After several years with a webshop we decided in 2021 to open a physical shop. This became possible for us because we chose to build our own house and it fit well to add a little extra so I had my own dye studio and a small shop/showroom, which today is open by appointment.

Quality over quantity is my motto. Quality means everything to me. It's annoying to buy a lot of yarn if the color doesn't hold or, for example, bleeds. All my yarn is dyed with acid dyes and I guarantee colorfastness to light, washing and rubbing and I will refund your money if you experience otherwise.

Since I developed this allergy, I felt it was obvious to source yarn that I could tolerate and thus others could as well. So with the exception of a very few products, most of my yarn is more or less allergy friendly. I have good feedback from people who have hand eczema and haven't knitted for years and who suddenly can knit again when they knit with my cashmere, yak or camel yarn.

So here I am and here is my world. I hope you like my yarn as much as I do and I hope you can find something lovely for your knitting projects.

Happy knitting!

Bettina
